There are many methods that can be used when it comes to designing a product.
The very best ideas can be badly sketched and can lower the confidence of a student who thinks they can't draw and therefore can't design!
In this session we'll go through my tried and tested approach to designing in a way that 'clocks' up great evidence for NEA marks when 3D printing is a possible outcome.
You'll get a box of resources posted out before the session that can be used in your own setting, we will be designing a lamp head as the focus for the course.
In the box you'll get:
- Hard lead pencil/fine line pen/thick outline pen
- Drawing stencils
- layout paper
- Post-it notes for a fast paced demo on how to generate ideas at speed with a class
- Card for template making
- Blue foam for fast 3D models - you'll get an example of mine and new piece to use yourself back at school
- A 3D printed outcome as an example
- 2 X USB cables with LED card and Disco LED card
This is what we'll cover:
- Sketching ideas
- Developing an idea, considering how the part might function
- Taking a simple 2D sketch and turning it into a model
- Adding a photo of a sketch of model to a canvas on Fusion 360
- Using CAD to develop a rendered concept
- STL files for 3D printing
- How to teach students to work in a natural way that leads them to gain high NEA on their own
The session is delivered live using Microsoft Teams and is also recorded. You'll get a link to watch the session back again.
I would recommend having two devices for the session, E.g. a laptop or PC with Fusion installed and ready to use, alongside a second device to watch the session on. If you only have one device, just watch the session live, then play it back as you sketch along on Fusion.
